MY NEW CITIBANK PLATINUM CREDIT CARD
In my article titled My Credit Card 2012 - Bye Bye Standard Chartered Bank Visa Infinite (click here to read it), I posted a photo My 18 Credit Cards as of 1st January 2012. Since then I have surrendered the SCB VI. And in my article titled RM1,000,000 Unsecured Credit posted at Ringgit Wise Fool (click here to read it), I also mentioned that I will be terminating some of my other credit cards that do not benefit me.
Well, the Citibank Platinum Visa is a pretty good card. It offers Travel Medical Insurance on top of Standard Travel Insurance and earn the cardholder 5X reward points at selected departmental stores and merchants. Citibank credit cards are also entitled to many promotions at participating merchants.
Below is a photo I posted in my article comparing the Citibank PremierMiles versus the Citibank Platinum back in 28 April 2011.
However, I seldom use my Citibank Platinum Credit Card. So far only used it last year at TGV, Coffee Bean and Sakae Sushi (one time only) to enjoy discount with it. So last Tuesday night ( 17 January 2011), I called Citibank Customer Service to terminate my Citibank Platinum Credit Card.
Then on Wednesday 18 January 2012, while I was in dreamland at around 3pm, I was abruptly awaken by a call from Citibank Card Termination Department. This girl asked me to maintain my Citibank Platinum as the system showed that the annual fee is waived till 2013 and started bombarding me with the benefits of Citibank Platinum Credit Card in super fast mode (it is a mouth full to state the benefits of all the places that we can earn 5X Rewards Points with the Citi Plat). I told her I hardly used the card and she repeated to me the benefits again. However, there is also another reason why I wanted to terminate my Citibank Plat. You see, I dislike my Citibank Platinum Credit Card, which I applied thru CitiGold Account last year, because I hated the last 4 digit numbers where it had a No.4. And, she knew what I meant about not wanting the number when she read it out in Cantonese.
To my surprised, the Citi representative told me she can reissue me a NEW Citi Plat with NEW number for FREE. However she could not tell me the number off hand. She then asked if I would consider maintaining the Citibank Plat if she can generate a new number. That got me excited, the thrill of finding out if I 'll get a card ending with the number No.8. Those of you guys who have been following my blog will know that I'm a fool when it come to credit cards, and I am also into the number No.8. Click here to read my article titled Credit Card No.8 Fool. And for those who want to learn more about why I like No.8, click here to read my article Hokkien No.8 No.9.
Hmmmmm.... can get some thrill on a lazy Wednesday afternoon in bed, betting RM50 (government service tax for this year) to see if I 'll get the No.8. Same kind of thrill I get when I am playing baccarat, where I'll be betting that I'll get No.9 every time (as if). So, since I cannot resist the thrill of playing probabilities i.e. gambling, I said YES (you guys who play 4D will understand, it's 50:50, either we strike or don't, haha; and for those of you who don't gamble, don't start as you'll never win in the long run).
So, she hit generate number; and there was a number No.8 and ended with No.9 and most importantly no No.4 :) I was kind of disappointed that the 16 digits did not end with No.88. However, since I accepted the "bet", I now have to maintain a Citibank Platinum Visa Credit Card.
Today, 21st January 2012, I received my new replacement Citibank Platinum via Pos Laju. Took only 2 days for the NEW FREE replacement Citi Plat with NEW number to reach me, must say Citibank is really efficient.
I now have to go make sure I get my RM50 (GST) worth, or try to break even, and the way to do it, is to go find out which outlets offer discount with Citibank Credit Cards.
CITIBANK CREDIT CARD PROMOTION 2012
The good news is that Citibank's 20% discount at Coffee Bean has been extended to 2012 :)
We now can also earn 5X Reward Points when we dine at Madam Kwan's until Jun 2012. However this offer is not applicable to PremierMiles. Actually, if I were to go to Madam Kwan's for their nasi lemak, I would either use my OCBC Titanium MasterCard and earn 5% cash back or use my Maybankard 2 AMEX which also earns me 5X Treats Points plus 5% cash back on weekends.
Also until 30th Jun 2012, you get a free piece of cake when you spend above RM40 at Secret Recipes.
Here are Shopping Discount with your Citibank Credit Card:
Arnold Palmer - 20% discount for normal priced item and additional 10% during sales on discountde items.
Camel Active - 20% discount when you spend RM250 and above.
Body Glove - 10% off for normal priced item. However, ever time I pass by Body Glove, they seem to have promo all the time.
Lacoste - 10% Discount on normal priced item and additional 5% off with minimum spend of RM800.
Paris Hilton - 10% off normal priced item AND TAKE NOTE Additional 10% off on Fridays! Valid till 30 Jun 2012.
World of Cartoon - 10% discount on normal and discounted apparel.
Suki-Ya Japanese Restaurant at Pavilion - 15% off total bill on weekends only.
Goku Raku Ramen Mid Valley - 20% off total bill. This I must try out, I love Ramen ( just like Naruto Uzumaki ) and Maggi Mee :)
Grand Lexis Port Dickson Hotel Resort - RM430++ for Executive Pool and RM420++ for Sky Pool Villa. This was the previous Water Chalets where there is a swimming pool in every single room. This resort hotel is Great for kids where they can swim all day and night; and the fussy parents don't have to worry about rain or their kids getting sun burned. I think we also get discount with our Jaya Jusco card and many other credit cards, so check them out and see which is the best offer.
You can also use your Citi Reward points to pay for your purchases when you dine at Coffee Bean, Madam Kwan's, Miss Kwan's or Sakae Sushi, shopping at GAP, Poh Kong, Samsonite, Lazo Diamond, all IT, departmental store like Robinsons and Tangs, electrical goods at Harvey Norman SenQ and TBM and even at cinemas for movie tickets at TGV and Cathay.

CONCLUSION
Besides the discount at Coffee Bean, I doubt I can gain much from my Citibank Platinum Visa Credit Card this year as I don't patronize most merchants that offer discount with it. However, I must go try Goku Raku Ramen at Mid Valley. And since I won't be spending much with the card, it also means I won't earn enough points to redeem any stuff. So, before I go terminate the Citibank Credit Card again next time, I must go and use whatever points that I have earned to pay (in full or part) for a cup of coffee at Coffee Bean :)
